With centralised points of service and Sales Advisers who can concentrate on service rather than tasks, Debenhams have introduced a new way of Fashionworking that means tasks are completed out of sight of the customers. They work closely with their suppliers so that when they receive their deliveries the stock has been processed in a way that allows it to be merchandised more easily. They have also introduced new training initiatives that equip their employees with the skills they need to do their job.

They have teams of dedicated professionals in their stores throughout the country making sure their customers are the most satisfied on the high street. Their teams consist of a wide variety of different people; it's their different skills, different personalities and individual talents that make Debenhams the success they are today.

Everyone understands that it's hard work, but no matter which store you go into, Debenhams can guarantee that the pace of life will be fast, that team work will be paramount, the hours flexible and the opportunities diverse.

Store Manager

Every decision a Store Manager makes has an impact on their business. However, managing any store is most definitely a team effort. Working closely with the Sales Managers within each area of the store the management inspire commitment, motivation and confidence, encouraging customer service that people remember for all the right reasons.

Sales Management

Initiative and expertise help their Sales Managers to deliver creative sales opportunities. They take responsibility for the learning and development of their team and making sure that they are effective requires the ability to think on their feet. They coach their team to give their best and ensure that their area is effectively stocked and staffed at the right times.

Keeping abreast of what's happening on the High Street is also important as Buyers and Merchandisers often rely on the local commercial knowledge of Sales Managers to assist them in making the right decisions on product distribution.

Visual Teams

Debenhams are very proud of their range of products and lines, but how do they keep them looking stylish, modern and attractive, making sure their customers want to come into the store and see for themselves? Well, they need to make sure that the displays are as eye-catching and contemporary as possible, both in the store and in the windows. That task goes to the Visual Merchandising team. Making an impact visually takes a creative mind and innovative thought - that's why this team is trained to use their initiative to apply their own talents.

Working together with the Head Office Visual team and their colleagues within the store they ensure that the displays don't just look good, they generate sales too.

Merchandise Teams

Considering how many products Debenhams sell, it's no surprise that their Merchandise team is a major part of the store. They work together mainly out of store opening hours, to ensure the store has full ranges on display and support the stores Visual team to ensure the stores are visually exciting. With their rapid turnover of stock, it's essential that the stores replace their merchandise quickly and with the minimum of fuss, making a smooth transition of merchandise from the hands of the delivery team to those of the customers.

This team's commitment and determination helps them to rise to the ongoing challenge to maintain that vital support for the sales teams and deal with the stream of incoming deliveries.

Operations Team

Their customers don't see it, but behind the scenes in any store, there's a team of people working hard to ensure it operates smoothly. With so many different departments and elements to think about, it's no easy task. Finance arrangements are a major responsibility but then there are plenty of other practicalities to manage such as Loss Prevention and Technical Services. Their Operations Management teams play a vital role in supporting their stores and the rest of the business with their commercial and financial based decisions.

HR Team

In every store, the HR team works with the commercial operation contributing to the role the store teams play in driving the business forward by focusing on the people and people processes. It is their responsibility to ensure that through the management of teams, all the people receive career development, training and are motivated and inspired to give their best. Recruiting the best people for the job is crucial, ensuring that they want to stay with Debenhams and are given the skills to grow in expertise. Coaching their managers to get the best from their people, they provide advice and ensure that hours of work not only suit the stores trading patterns but the lifestyles of employees.

Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, Debenhams stores have their own way of refreshing their customers. But what they all have in common is a commitment to high standards of service, delicious food and quality across the board. With a dedicated team in every store making every visitor's experience the best it can be, in-store catering has never looked or tasted better - and what's more it complements their shopping experience perfectly.

The members of the Foodservices team all contribute to providing a refreshing dining experience from preparing menus' to serving dishes and creating a relaxed atmosphere away from the hustle of the high street - no wonder so many people come back for more.
