Comet

comet logoYou probably know Comet as one of the UK's leading electrical retailers but there's a lot more to Comet than that. Today, they employ over 10,000 people in a range of functions and have more than 270 stores nationwide. In addition, Comet offer a fast-growing home shopping service available via phone or through their website.

CometFrom Comets Retail Teams, Distribution Centres and Home Delivery Platforms to their After Sales Service Centres and specialist Head Office teams, Comet set out to offer customers great service, support and peace of mind. Their people are united by a customer focus and a positive, vibrant approach and they also refer to each other as colleagues, not employees or staff. After all, they all work together, with shared goals: to deliver the best possible service, lowest possible prices and 100% customer satisfaction.

Does this sound like the sort of company you'd like to work for?

Of course, Comet's a huge company with a £multi-billion turnover and yes, they are focused on delivering the electrical solutions customers want. But today, electrical retailing is also about fashion, lifestyle and fun and so is Comet as a whole.

So what's it like to work for them? It's fast-paced, commercial and professional without being bureaucratic. It's also very unstuffy! The atmosphere in their stores, warehouses, call centres and Call Centreoffices alike are friendly and non-hierarchical. In short, if you work at Comet they can guarantee that every day will be different. You will have the opportunity to use all of your skills and talents as well as developing new ones. Oh, and it is a lot of fun.

As you'd imagine, Retail is far and away Comet's biggest business function - after all, it's the company's core activity. Comet already employ around 6,000 permanent full-time and part-time Retail colleagues, and some 2,000 more join them when we're at our busiest between October and January. They are committed to expanding their property portfolio, building even bigger, better stores and doubling their turnover in the next five years.

It's fair to say that their entire business is focused on retailing. Their business objective is to tie in with other Comet functions and in stores you can see the culmination of the sourcing, pricing, buying, transporting, quality-checking and merchandising that go on behind the scenes. Together, they set out to meet the varying needs of customers nationwide and provide exciting electrical solutions. Their main aim is to exceed shoppers' expectations and, of course, make profits in the process.

But retailing at Comet isn't just about their nationwide store network. They also have a large business-to-business operation, which serves corporate and business customers; and a thriving Central Retail Operations area, based in Rickmansworth. Then there's their Hull-based Customer Information Centre, where you'll find their insurance and national account telephone teams. In 1999, they set up e-Comet to provide customers with an efficient web-based research and shopping service. Today this is the UK's fourth largest e-commerce site and the country's foremost online electrical retailer.

Comet are continuously thinking up new shopping concepts by creating inviting environments that show off electrical products to their best advantage. After all, today's 'must-have' buys are as much about fashion and lifestyle as functionality that's why they've developed a large number of brand new Destination stores around the country. They're big, interactive, customer-friendly places that present a whole new way of shopping for electrical goods - and a whole new range of exciting career opportunities for their people.

Comet stores are open seven days a week. In most stores sales colleagues earn commission in addition to their basic salary, whilst managers have access to a profit-linked bonus scheme.

Retail can be hectic - especially at Christmas - but it's also dynamic and great fun. There's always plenty to learn and Comet lots going on and if you've got what it takes when it comes to making sales, your promotion prospects are excellent: over two thirds of Comets Area Managers started as sales or warehouse colleagues, and many as temporary colleagues.

If you enjoy a challenging and supportive environment where commitment and hard work is rewarded, then Comet could be the place for you.

Imagine Recruitment is currently recruiting Store Managers and Deputy Managers nationwide. If you wish to apply then please register your details and indicate your wish to apply for a position with Comet, a member of the Imagine Recruitment Comet team will then call you back.
